Mayo Clinic
The oldest and largest integrated, non-profit group practice in the world
Jacksonville, Florida
Mayo Clinic is the oldest and largest integrated, not-for-profit group practice of medicine in the world. Mayo has earned a reputation for finding answers to difficult medical questions, based on more than 100 years of results. Its patient-care activities are supported by medical education and research. Mayo Clinic is consistently rated overall as one of the two top hospitals in the United States by U.S. News & World Report.
The Mayo model of care is built on teams of physicians and other medical professionals working together. A single electronic medical record for each patient facilitates collaboration. Any Mayo physician can access more than 3,000 physician and researcher colleagues in the system for help. Patients from all 50 U.S. states and more than 150 countries visit a Mayo Clinic site every year for their medical needs. When the Jacksonville, Florida, facility opened in 1986, it was Mayo’s first expansion beyond Rochester, Minnesota. A new 214-bed hospital opened in April 2008 in Jacksonville, consolidating all services on one campus.
Mayo Clinic is designated by the National Cancer Institute as a Comprehensive Cancer Center. At its three locations, Mayo physicians perform more than 1,100 transplants a year, making it the largest transplant program in the United States. Patient survival rates consistently exceed national averages.
