WHEN TO CALL YOUR DOCTOR FOR EYE, RED (WITHOUT PUS)

Call Your Doctor Now (night or day) If

  • Your child looks or acts very sick.
  • Eyelid is very red or very swollen.
  • Constant tearing or blinking.
  • Eye pain or blurred vision.
  • Age less than 12 weeks with fever above 100.4°F (38°C) rectally.
  • Age less than 1 month old.
  • Only 1 eye is red and present for more than 24 hours.

Call Your Doctor Within 24 Hours (between 9am and 4pm) If

  • You think your child needs to be seen.

Call Your Doctor During Weekday Office Hours If

  • You have other questions or concerns.

Parent Care at Home If

  • Red eye as part of a cold and you don't think your child needs to be seen.
  • Red eye caused by mild irritant (e.g. soap, sunscreen, food) and you don't think your child needs to be seen.
