How to Request a Medical Second Opinion

After confirming your insurance provider offers WorldCare:

  • Call MemberCare at 1-877-676-6439 or fill out the form below.
    The center is open Monday to Friday, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET. If you call after these hours, they will get back to you the next business day.
  • A clinical coordinator will speak with you to begin the process, confirm your eligibility, and send you any required forms. They will also arrange your first call with your designated Case Manager.

Share Your Needs and Concerns

Your Case Manager will listen, guide, and learn about your health journey to understand what matters most to you.

  • Your Case Manager will be your main contact during the medical second opinion process. They are there to listen and help you. They will ask questions to learn about your diagnosis, medical history, and personal concerns. They will also keep you updated.

  • WorldCare’s Case Managers are always available to speak with you and your family. Regular communication is important.

Gather Your Medical Records

Your Case Manager collects and organizes all medical records securely for review by world-class specialists.

  • Once they understand your needs, your Case Manager will start collecting your medical records, or help you collect them. WorldCare will make sure all necessary documents are gathered, including written records, images, and samples from the hospitals and labs involved in your care. All your information is sent securely to The WorldCare Consortium® hospital handling your case.
  • The Case Manager also prepares questions for the team of specialists who will review your case. These questions ensure that all aspects of your case are covered.
  • You might be offered pharmacogenomics (PGx) testing to see how your genes affect your response to medications. The Case Manager will guide you on how to provide a saliva sample for this test.

Top Medical Experts Review Your Case

  • A team of specialists, chosen based on your case, will review all your records, including lab samples and images.

  • Their findings are put into a detailed report that is summarized by the lead doctor.

Receive Your Medical Second Opinion Report

You’ll receive a detailed report outlining your confirmed diagnosis and treatment recommendations.

  • The final report gives detailed information about your diagnosis and the best treatment options. It also includes: 

    • Results from any PGx testing

    • Educational materials about your condition

    • Suggested support groups and resources

    • A complete set of your medical records

    • Information about the hospitals and doctors who provided the second opinion

    • Background and qualifications of the doctors

Answer the follow-up coaching call

Your Case Manager reviews your results with you and is available to answer any questions.

  • The Case Manager will review the report with you and your family. A copy of the report is also sent to your doctor so they can help with your treatment plan. Your Case Manager will be available to answer any questions you or your doctor may have after you receive your report.

Kendall and Karen

Kendall’s Story

When her daughter, Kendall, suddenly started complaining of “heart pain”, Karen took Kendall’s pulse.  It was so fast and erratic that she called 911 immediately. What followed was a harrowing ambulance ride to the emergency room, where Kendall was diagnosed with supraventricular tachycardia (SVT). Doctors said Kendall would need immediate surgical intervention, but at a hospital in another city. Within minutes, it seemed like their lives had turned upside down. Overwhelmed by the situation and unsure what to do, they contacted their insurance company and were told to call WorldCare.

A WorldCare Nurse Case Manager immediately put Karen at ease. She collected all of Kendall’s relevant medical information and arranged for a MSO from a top pediatric cardiology center in Boston. The MSO confirmed Kendall’s SVT diagnosis, but most importantly, let Karen know that it would be safe to wait a few years before subjecting Kendall to the risks of surgery.

Courtney

Courtney’s Story

Courtney was diagnosed with an aggressive form of bladder cancer in her early 30s. After multiple surgeries to assess the disease, her care team recommended removing her entire bladder, an option that felt overwhelming and life-altering.

WorldCare coordinated a Medical Second Opinion from a leading team of urologic oncologists. Their review supported a partial bladder removal, allowing Courtney to avoid a cystostomy bag and maintain her active lifestyle.

Four years later, Courtney remains cancer-free. She went on to graduate at the top of her class, marry her partner, and become an advocate for bladder cancer awareness, supporting others through their own care journeys as a medical care coordinator.

John

John’s Story

John has competed in over 100 triathlons, six Ironman races and one World Championship race. He had already undergone one operation to remove a benign brain cyst and knew he would likely need brain surgery again, but that day came sooner than anticipated. Because he had WorldCare coverage, John was able to immediately request a WorldCare MSO.

A WorldCare Nurse Case Manager walked John through the MSO process and collected his medical records, including magnetic resonance imaging from his MRI clinic, and identified a top neurosurgeon from one of The WorldCare Consortium institutions to review his case. A few days later, John received his WorldCare MSO, which confirmed the initial diagnosis and the need for surgery. Reassured that he was making the right decision, John had surgery to remove the cyst. He is now back to riding his bike and running. He says WorldCare provided him with the answers he needed much sooner than otherwise would have been possible.

Lucas

Lucas's Story

Lucas was bewildered when his doctor said he should get a pacemaker. Active and healthy, he had barely crossed 50. Although he had dizzy spells, his MRI showed a structurally sound heart. The idea of such a serious medical intervention felt unnecessary and overwhelming.
