Understanding WorldCare
General Inquiries
WorldCare connects members and their doctors with teams of leading specialists from top U.S. teaching and research hospitals. These experts review complex medical cases to confirm or clarify diagnoses and recommend the best possible treatment options.
A WorldCare Medical Second Opinion (MSO) provides a comprehensive review of a member’s diagnosis and treatment plan by a multidisciplinary team of specialists. It’s designed to give members and their physicians confidence, clarity, and access to the latest medical research, all without the need for travel.
All MSOs are performed by The WorldCare Consortium®, an exclusive network of world-renowned academic hospitals such as Mass General Brigham, UCLA Health, Northwestern Medicine, and Boston Children’s Hospital.
WorldCare focuses on serious and complex conditions, bringing together teams of specialists from top hospitals to review each case in depth. In the past three years, 1 in 4 WorldCare Medical Second Opinions changed a diagnosis and 7 in 10 revised a treatment plan. Members receive expert insights from The WorldCare Consortium®, along with dedicated nurse support and optional enhancements like mental health guidance and pharmacogenomic (PGx) testing for more personalized care.
Once all medical records are received, the full MSO report is typically delivered within 10 business days. More complex cases may take longer to ensure a complete and accurate review.

Serious and complex conditions often involve multiple body systems, rapidly evolving medical research, and high-stakes treatment decisions. Medical knowledge is advancing faster than any single physician can track alone, making team-based, multidisciplinary review essential for accurate diagnosis and effective care.
These conditions also carry significant personal, social, and economic impact, driving higher healthcare costs, longer time away from work, and greater emotional stress for patients and families. By focusing exclusively on serious and complex cases, WorldCare brings together teams of specialists from leading research hospitals to deliver precise, evidence-based guidance that can clarify diagnoses, refine treatment plans, and help avoid unnecessary or ineffective care.
This focused approach ensures members and their doctors have access to the depth of expertise needed when decisions matter most.
